Hollandse Kust (west) wind farm zone
Particulars of the wind farms
Hollandse Kust (west) lies 51 kilometres from the coast, to the west of the Hollandse Kust (north) wind farm zone. So it is a long way from the mainland and, on completion, the wind farms will hardly be visible from the coast. The electricity will be brought to land near Wijk aan Zee by transmission cables and, from there, distributed to the national electricity grid.

Sites
This wind energy area is divided into three sites of approximately 700 MW each, of which the two northern sites (sites VI and VII) will be developed first. The site decisions VI and VII of the Hollandse Kust (west) wind energy area were published in the Government Gazette of February 25, 2022. After the notification of the decisions on December 9, 2021, the site decisions were available for inspection until Friday, January 21, 2022. The site decisions are irrevocable.
The tenders for sites VI and VII took place in 2022. Construction of site VI commenced in November 2025. Construction of site VII strated in August 2026. Energy is generated in the wind energy area from 2026 onwords.
All reports and decisions can be found on the website of the RVO Bureau for Energy Projects (opens in new window) (refers to another website).
Passage
In November 2025, construction began on a wind farm in site VI of Hollandse Kust (west). Construction of the wind farm in site VII began in August 2026. Following a decision to establish a safety zone, a safety zone has come into force around sites VI and VII, meaning that the contiguous area comprising sites VI and VII is now accessible only to authorized traffic.
Shared use
When the Hollandse Kust (west) wind energy zone is opened, an area passport guide will become available. Zoning in this area passport indicates where in the wind farms there is room for shared use.
Safety during the construction of sites VI and VII Hollandse Kust (west)
A safety zone has been established for the construction of the wind farms in sites VI and VII of the Hollandse Kust (west) wind energy area (see Figure 1). Within this safety zone, there is a general access ban, which means that only local traffic is permitted. Passage and shared use are not permitted during this construction phase. The establishment of the safety zone is intended to ensure the safe construction and operation of the wind farms in site VI and VII of the Hollandse Kust (west) wind energy area.
The decision to establish this safety zone was published in the Dutch Government Gazette ( Staatscourant) (opent in nieuw venster) (verwijst naar een andere website)on 13 August 2026.
