Particulars of the wind farm

The Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden wind farm zone lies 67 kilometres from the coast, to the north of Groningen, adjacent to the border with Germany. So it is a long way from the mainland and is hardly visible from the coast. Also to be found within this wind farm zone are the existing Gemini Buitengaats and Gemini ZeeEnergie wind farms, with a joint capacity of 600 MW.

Sites

The wind farm zone, which is yet to be built, will have a single site with a capacity of 700 MW.  The tender procedure will take place in 2027. The wind farm will supply electricity from 2031 onwards.

The draft Range and Detail Memorandum has been published and has been available for inspection. Documents are available for inspection on the website of Bureau Energieprojecten.

At the end of 2021, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate decided to combine the landing procedure for  wind farm Ten Noorden van de Waddeneilanden with that of the new 5-east (4 GW) wind energy zone. Free passage

Through shipping will not be permitted to pass through the Gemini wind farms or Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden wind farm. Shipping may solely pass through a so-called ‘transit passage’. The open space between the two Gemini wind farms will be used for this.

Shared use

An Area Passport guide will be available on the opening of the Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden wind farm zone. Zoning in this area passport will show where there is space in the wind farm for shared use.
